Photographic mugs are an interesting category. They have the honor of being the most expensive mugs available to the original owners, but some collectors refuse to collect them on the grounds that they aren’t really folk art in the same way the hand-decorated mugs are. The process of creating these mugs was quite interesting. The person ordering the mug would submit a photograph and using a special method the company would take a photo of the original photo and then use the negative of that to produce the image on the mug which would be baked onto the mug like any other decoration and they are very stable images. Some of these mugs would be touched up or hand tinted by a decorator to enhance the image even more. Most Photographic mugs feature portraits of the owner but some of them feature buildings, vehicles or machines as well.
